It seems like we’re on a funny pattern. Frigid cold, then snow, lots of snow, then cold again, etc., and it seems like this weekend is cold’s turn. But, hey, it’s warm at Fratello’s, and we’re hoping you’ll consider joining us this weekend. We will be featuring Opah Fish from Hawaii, Albacore Tuna, also Hawaiian, and Pilot Rack of Lamb. I know a lot of you were basically stuck in your homes recently, snow bound and all, and the roads were less than ideal, but aside from the cold it looks to me like it’ll be a good time this weekend to head out for some good food and wine. Just saying, but we’d love to see you.
Winewise, I have added a new wine from Sicily to our feature board. Sicily was once the most productive wine region of Italy, but in recent decades Sicily has been emphasizing more on quality than on quantity. The Etna Rosso from Firriato is a combination of Nerrello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio which are indigenous grapes grown on the slopes of the volcano, and the wine offers a brilliant red color and nose of red fruits and spices. Medium bodied with good concentration and tannins, this is a nice wine to enjoy with our menu, and is available by the bottle or by the glass. I have also added to our wine list another red wine from Firriato, also from Sicily, Altavilla Della Corte, which is a blend of Nero D’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was on our list before, and is an excellent value. I have also added a red from the Lombardy region of north central Italy, Inferno, Valtellina Superiore, from Mamette Prevostini. This wine is 100% nebbiolo and is the only region
outside of Piedmont where nebbiolo is grown in Italy. Situated near the Swiss border, Inferno offers medium body with blueberry and blackberry fruit, closing with a slight liquorice finish, with slightly less body then the Piedmont nebbiolos, but at a better price point as well. It is fun to try different wines, and this wine certainly qualifies as different. Just a thought.
We hope you made it through the trying weather, and let’s hope that the worst is behind us. Look on the bright side, spring training is about to begin! Thanks for all your support, and we hope to see you soon.
