Now that Memorial Day is passed, I guess it is “unofficially” summer. Which is fine by me, although the bit cooler temps today were welcome. We love summer, with the great (usually) weather, plenty of sunshine (also, usually), long days – it is just a great time of year – great for outdoor activities (fill in the blank), and just a great time to head out for some good food and wine. Like at Fratello’s, this very weekend, when we will be featuring Certified Angus Beef Flank Steak, Copper River Sockeye Salmon (which is all so good for you!) and the ever popular Black Grouper. Consider joining us, we’d love to see you and have you start out a wonderful summer with a great meal!
On our wine feature board our supply of the Sangiovese based Santa Cristina is very low, but fear not, as I have another excellent Sangiovese based wine, a Rosso di Montalcino from Avignonesi, waiting in the wings. Sangiovese is the primary grape in Chianti, but also figures in many other wonderful Italian reds, including Rosso di Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano (which is not only an excellent wine but a wonderful name, just flowing off your lips) and of course, Brunello, one of the world’s great wines. Additionally, we offer many so called “Super Tuscans”, most of which are Sangiovese based. Generally a medium bodied wine, Sangiovese can also offer substance and power, with noted acidity which works well with food, especially red sauces. Sangiovese is among the two most noted varietals in Italy, the other being Nebbiolo, and I urge you to try it.
We hope you had a wonderful and safe Memorial Day, and want to thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you soon.
