It looks like summer has arrived, at least for today. It has been a cold to cool season thus far, and it sure is nice for the sun to arrive and warm us up. I know, I know, there’s talk of some rain coming, but let’s enjoy the sun and warmth while we can. Plus it seems like excellent – let me say again, EXCELLENT – weather to come over for some good food and wine this weekend. We will be featuring Halibut Cheeks, Jumbo Sea Scallops, and Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin Steaks for your dining pleasure, and of course all your favorite Fratello entrees will be available as well. Celebrate Mother’s Day early and join us this Friday and/or Saturday – we’d love to see ya’!
On our wine feature board we are running low on the excellent and very food friendly Barbera D’Asti from Italy, but we have a good supply of the also excellent Sangiovese blend from Tuscany, Santa Cristina. I talked about Sangiovese last week, and I am a big fan of this well known Italian grape, especially with our Marinara sauce. Another Italian grape varietal I am a big fan of is Nebbiolo, the source grape for the wonderful Barolos and Barbarescos from Piedmont. Nebbiolo is a grape unlike most other varietals that is unique to Italy, and although efforts have been made in California and Australia to grow the grape, certainly the finest expression of the grape comes from Italy. Sometimes referred to as the “King” of Italian wines, Nebbiolo is not a heavy handed wines like some Cabernets are, especially from California, nor are they overly fruit forward, the so called “fruit bombs”. Rather, Nebbiolo is an elegant wine, with fruit certainly, but more body and structure,
acidity and tannins, and with Barolo is among the world’s great wines. Lesser expensive but also excellent is Barbaresco and Nebbiolo Langhe, and from the Lombardy region of Italy comes Inferno from the Valtellina region. I urge you to consider a Nebbiolo when dining with us.
I want to thank all of you for your continued support all these years, and I want to especially note and thank all of the Mothers and Mothers-to-be among you, especially this weekend. None of us would be here without you, and although we will not be here this Sunday (we will be with our own Mothers, wives and Mothers-to-be) we want to wish you all a most Happy and Blessed Mothers Day! Thank you.
PS GO TRIBE!!!
