Weekend Specials

Greetings!

It sure keeps one guessing around here. Last week I mentioned that we seemed to jump right into the summer temps, forget about spring, and this week it almost looked like fall again. A little consistency, please! Just like we try to do, week after week, providing you with some delicious dining options. Like this weekend, when we will be featuring Swordfish, Mahi-mahi and Certified Angus Beef Flat Iron Steaks. I know the nicer days and evening offer a lot of options for your time, but we’d love to see ya’!

On our wine feature board we continue to run with the new additions to join the Cab from Joel Gott and the Sangiovese red blend from Ferrari-Carano, Siena. Locations AR is another of the series of wines produced by Dave Phinney of Prisoner fame featuring grapes and regions of the world, this time being Argentina and featuring Malbec. This is one of the better Locations wines, and the blend works well with our menu. The Nebbiolo Langhe by Rivetti from Piedmont is one of the better Nebbiolos I have tasted recently, and also is very good with our menu. Nebbiolo is one of the major grapes of Italy, and is the source of the great Piedmont wines Barolo and Barbaresco. Barolo, referred to as the King of Italian wines, and Barbaresco are perhaps more structured and elegant than a Nebbiolo, but also much more expensive. This wine from Rivetti offers a good example of the heights that Nebbiolo can go to, and is a good introduction to the grape and what it is all about. I urge you to
try it.

Thanks for your continued support, and we hope you are well and enjoying the season, no matter what the temps are. We hope to see you soon.

Ciao

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

Looks like we’re jumping right into summer, forget about spring. Now that I have said this, it will probably snow next week, but you get the idea. Not that we are complaining. Better days are coming for us all, and in fact I’d argue that they are here already. Take this weekend, for instance, when we will be featuring Prime Rib of Beef, Lane Snapper and Black Grouper. I know the nicer temps gives one the chance to keep up with the outdoor chores, and there are probably more options of things to do, but just remember that we are here for you. We’d love to see ya’!

The Locations AR continues to do well on our wine feature board, as do the always popular Cabernet from Joel Gott and the Sangiovese red blend from Ferrari-Carano, Siena. I am also fond of the red blend from Portugal, Portada, and I have added a Nebbiolo from Italy from Rivetti, an organic producer from Piedmont. Both the Portada and the Nebbiolo differ from the other more new world nuanced wines, offering less fruit and showing more of the effects of the soil and climate on the grapes. Not better, just different, and both are very good with our menu. Just a thought.

Thanks again for your continued support, in all kinds of weather and times. We are very grateful, and hope to see you soon. Take care of yourselves.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

Looks like sunny days are coming soon, warmer temps, it might even be a taste, dare I say, of what’s to come (hopefully). Time to be in a celebratory frame of mind and treat yourselves to some good food & wine. We intend to “celebrate” this weekend by offering as features Dover Sole, Skate Wing Fish and Certified Angus Beef Delmonico Steaks. Come join us, we’d love to see ya’!

On the wine front, I have added Location AR to our program, another in the Location series of wines from around the world crafted by Dave Phinney, the creator of Abstract, Palermo, and Papillon, among others. AR is a red blend from Argentina, and is primarily Malbec with some Cabernet and Tannat, another Bordeaux varietal grape that does well in South America. It is interesting comparing AR to the other Malbec blend on our feature board from Cuvelier, which is also very good. I think AR is slightly more fruit forward and the Cuvelier blend slightly more complex, but that’s just me. Try it for yourself. Also, there also might be another Location wine lurking in the wings that we have featured before, just saying. As I have said before, I am confident that we have a wine for you to enjoy.

It finally seems like spring has come, and we hope you are well and enjoying the seasonal transition. Thanks for all your support, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

It really is unfortunate that I saw white flakes falling from the sky as I swept this morning. Well, I was thinking of something else rather than “unfortunate”, but you know what I mean. Enough already! How about some sun and warmth! Last I recall we are going on the final week of April.
Not too consistent temp wise around here, not that it ever is. But we for our part try to be, and this weekend we are featuring what we expect to be consistently good specials. Such as Lemon Sole from the North Atlantic, Swordfish and Certified Angus Beef Flat Iron Steaks. It might be chilly out but warm in Fratello’s, and we’d love to see ya’!

On our wine feature board I continue to run with the Cab from Joel Gott, the Sangiovese blend, Siena, from Ferrari-Carano, the Portada red blend from Portugal, and the Malbec blend from Argentina, Coleccion from Cuvelier. I like all these wines – the Portada is made with grapes indigenous to Portugal yet made in more of an international style, the Cabernet from Joel Gott is sourced from fruit from Napa and elsewhere in the state, Siena offers great fruit and acidity and is a wonderful food or by itself wine, and the wine by Cuvelier has it all – body, fruit and structure. Speaking of Joel Gott, I had the opportunity to meet and chat with him this week, and I’m glad to report that not only are his wines good but he is really a decent fellow. I should receive more of the wine La Massa this week, which is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot and Alicante and is rated 92 points by Robert Parker. Medium to full bodied, this wine provides a taste of a so called “Super Tuscan” at
a more affordable cost. And lastly, for those in the know, there might be some “Locations” wine available this weekend as well, by the bottle at this point, and from more than one “Location”. Just sayin”

We hope you are well, and “unfortunately” I have to say warm, and we hope to see you soon. Thanks for all your support.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

Well, it could be better out, non? I mean, like sunny a bit, perhaps a tad warmer as well. But we all know it sure could be worse, even could snow, heaven forbid, But there does not seem to be anything on the horizon to prevent one from heading out to enjoy good food and wine this weekend. For our part, we will be featuring Black Grouper, Jumbo Sea Scallops and Rack of Lamb this weekend. The weather and temps notwithstanding, the flowers are starting to come out, the Tribe is playing and won a game yesterday, and the Cavs are starting their playoff run this Sunday. There is an air of optimism in the air, and we are going to be optimistic and hope to see some of you this weekend.

Winewise, I plan some changes to our feature board tomorrow, adding a Malbec blend from Argentina and a red blend from the Lisboa region of Portugal. I am very fond of the wine from the Iberian peninsula (i.e. Spain & Portugal), not only for their quality but their value, and they work very well with our menu. We have wines from both countries on our list, and I urge you to try them. The other wine news is that we still have the lesser expensive Brunello that I mentioned last week, which I enjoyed with dinner last week (at Fratello’s, of course!), and I have a Pinot Blanc and a Riesling from the region of Alsace, France available. These wines are very crisp and fresh, and are somewhat drier than their counterparts from California or elsewhere in the world and are a good value. At this point they are available by the bottle only, but I think that you will enjoy them.

As I said above, there is an air of optimism in the air, which perhaps is typical with Spring and all the growth around us. Your support and friendship contributes to this optimism for us, and we are very grateful. I hope you are well, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Ciao

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

Okay, I get it. It’s wet out. Tonight, it is going to be wet out. Ditto for tomorrow morning. But they say we’ve got smooth sailing after that, looking like a dry and nice weekend. Let us be optimistic, which is often a stretch around here (if you know what I mean!), and let’s look forward to decent temps and skies coming our way. Perfect weather to head out for some good food & wine, like, say, at Fratello’s. We will be featuring this weekend Certified Angus Beef Delmonico Steak, Haddock from the North Atlantic and in honor of you know who fresh Wahoo (aka “Ono”) fish from Hawaii. We hope you have a chance to join us, we’d love to see ya”!

On the wine front, we are finishing our run soon with the St. Jean Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast and the Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Crest from Washington state, both available by the glass or by the bottle, and both are inexpensive and tasty. We have enough for this weekend in all probability, and fear not for I have vino in the wings awaiting their turn on the board. To the wine list I have added a new but older vintage of an excellent Barbaresco, Ovello, from Cantina del Pino. This vintage is from 2003 and comes from the library of the distributor and I am told is drinking very well. Barbaresco along with Barolo are the major red wines from the Piedmont region of northwest Italy and are noted for their power and elegance. Not inexpensive but very good. We also have a new Brunello di Montalcino from Molino del Piano from the Tuscan region of Italy. This 2009 Brunello is rated 91 points by The Wine Advocate, and differs from the other Brunellos we offer in that it is
a softer and more approachable wine, a more international style that is immediately likable. Also, we can offer it for $48/bottle, which for a Brunello with this rating is amazing. I plan to add new wines in the near future, so stay tuned.

We hope you are dry and well and smiling, and bet you are as anxious as we are for the good temps (and times) to roll. Thanks for all your support, and we look forward to seeing you soon, maybe even this weekend (Hooray!).

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

As they say, April showers bring May flowers. Well, here’s hoping, if you know what I mean. It sure is better than what it might be, and what we have endured in past years, and the warmer temps are encouraging. I just think after a winter such as we have had it sure is nice to be able to get out and have some fun. Like this weekend, when we will be featuring Loin Lamb Chops, John Dory fish and Swordfish for you to enjoy. We hope to see you!

I have added to our wine board a Pinot Noir from Chateau Ste. Jean which is sourced from the Sonoma Coast. This is a good example of Sonoma Pinot at a very affordable cost, where some of the best Pinot from California hails from. I have also added a Cabernet from Columbia Crest from Washington State, which offers excellent fruit and flavor in a medium bodied Cab. Columbia Crest is a major player in Washington wine, and should not be dismissed because of its somewhat wide distribution. They offer very well made wines which garner excellent reviews from the wine press. Give it a try.

We are very grateful for your continued support all these years, and want to wish you a very blessed Easter. Take care, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

What happened? I thought we were heading to spring and warmth and sunshine, but we get the white stuff again!! I say do not let it get you down, defy what Mother Nature has shared with us and do not let it prevent you from enjoying some good food and wine this weekend. Like, just saying, at Fratello’s, when this weekend, snow or not, we will be featuring Haddock, Mako Shark and the amazing Rib Eye Cap Steak, aka Spinelis, which we have featured before and I have shared with you how excellent it is. Of course, if your tastes run towards Veal or Shrimp or Calamari or Pasta or Eggplant or Clams or Mussels or Chicken or….we will have that as well.

Thanks for your support as I have tried to prune our wine program a bit with my Inventory Reduction Sale, as we have basically achieved our objectives. As a result I can add some new wines to enjoy, such as a new Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast from Chateau St. Jean, a well respected winery from California. This wine offers excellent fruit and balance, and available by the bottle or by the glass on our feature board provides a nice alternative to the also excellent Pinot from Laetitia that we continue to feature, which hails further south from the Central Coast region of the state. In the wings await another Portugal red and a Cabernet from Washington by Columbia Crest, which continues to receive good reviews from the wine press. There is a lot of amazing juice world wide for you to enjoy, and I am confident that we can pair you up with a wine that you will enjoy.

It has become more and more of a surprise to me, year after year, how quickly time seems to pass, as we near the end of the first quarter of 2015. We continue to be amazed and grateful for your continued support, it is deeply appreciated. We hope you are well – and warm – and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

That warm day earlier this week sure was nice, non? What happened….a little consistency would be appreciated. Well, we at Fratello’s try to be a bit more consistent, at least in terms of quality food, wine, assorted beverages and service. We have been working at it for over 22 years now, and I think we are starting to get the hang of it. Like this weekend, when we will be featuring Smoked Duck, Certified Angus Beef Texas Sirloin, Jumbo Sea Scallops and North Atlantic Halibut. We’d love to see you, so consider joining us.

As far as vino goes, we are still offering an Inventory Reduction Sale to clear the deck a little bit and make room for some new offerings. This seems to be the time of year that a number of wine distributors have their wine shows, which in my effort to provide you with excellent wine I have been dutifully attending. Two of the wines on our feature board, the red wine from the Douro region of Portugal, Assobio, and the red blend from Chile, 1234, are nearly gone, but I have another red from Portugal, this time from an area nearer to Lisbon, a red blend from California and an excellent Pinot Noir from Sonoma awaiting their turn. I am confident that we have a wine that you will enjoy.

It is still a bit on the cool side, but it is getting better, and the longer days and sun in the sky give us a hint of what’s to come. Thanks for all your support, we hope you are well, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Weekend Specials

Greetings!

It sure is nice to see the sun, non? Actually, I mean a “warm” sun, or at least warmer, and I sure am glad to see that green and brown stuff that has appeared once some of the snow has melted away (i.e. grass and dirt, but you knew that!). It looks like rain might be coming soon, but it won’t be too bad to head out this weekend for some good food & wine. This weekend we will be featuring North Atlantic Flounder, Salmon from the Faroe Islands off the coast of northeast Scotland, and Bison “Buffalo” Short Ribs. Gather up the rain gear and head out to see us, we’d love to have you join us and keep us company.

My major wine news is that we are having an Inventory Reduction Sale starting tonight to clear up some space for our wine program. There are wines from Italy, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and California on this list, and the grapes include Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Grenache, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. These wines are all good if not excellent, and are offered at a discount over our normal pricing. But inventory is limited, so I urge you to join us and try these wines before they are gone.

One thing about the longer days and warmer sun is the optimism that better days are ahead for us all, at least weather-wise, but I want to believe that better days are ahead for us in many other ways as well. We for our part are both optimistic and grateful for your support, regardless of the weather or time of year. Thank you sincerely, and we look forward to seeing you soon, perhaps even this weekend to enjoy some wine with us (and food, of course!).
